AUCTION REPORT

The highlight of the most recent Auction held by Morris Bricknell Auctioneers & Chartered Surveyors at the Memorial Hall Whitchurch on 22nd October was in the silver section.

 

A London dealer motored down just in time to secure a number of the lots.

 

Topping the day was a 52oz. Victorian silver trophy at £830, an 18oz. Victorian silver rose bowl £340, a 20oz. engraved silver salver £460 with a large silver plated turkey plate and cover £550, small silver cream jug £75, silver and gold banded cigarette case £110, late Victorian silver pocket watch and Albert chain £95.

 

There was an interesting collection of Victorian fans and topping the day was a French Mother o’pearl and lace decorated in original box £200 with a small ivory fan £80 and a Mother o’pearl and hand painted silk fan £75.

 

The highlight of the miscellanea was the battle between a bidder in the room and on the telephone for a leather Valentina Italian style tote bag which realised £690. A fascinating pictorial Social History Album complied by Geraldine Davies-Evans realised £200, an album of Victorian postcards £50 with a Scott & Co. top hat £62.  A brown striped Demob suit and tie £75, Naval Officers dress jacket £35, a 70 piece gold plated cutlery set in security case £60, a mandolin £50, various riding crops including silver banded £40.

 

The furniture did not generate such interest although a late Victorian extending mahogany dining table in poor condition realised £360, a banded mahogany Edwardian bow fronted sideboard £150, satinwood pot cupboard £40, a Victorian mahogany bidet c.w. liner and cover £200, heavily carved 3-piece lounge suite £380, set of 6 fret cut splat back country chairs £60, pine linen chest £50.

 

Amongst the prices in the china and glass section a set of 5 Wade Nat West Bank piggy banks £100, Royal Doulton Bunnykins part service £38, Beswick Champion Ayrshire Cow £110 with a Jersey Cow £30, a collection of amber overlaid champagne flutes and claret glasses £40.

 

Amongst the outside lots a Henry cleaner £30, pine dresser with glazed cupboards above £45, Raleigh racing bike £26, elm seated captains chair £55, large metal bound pine trunk £36, brass topped fireguard £60, Honda lawn mower £34, virtually new 10ft. square Gazebo £38, Haberdashers display counter with broken glass £75.
